Nestle Chooses Lumia 630 for Sales Support - ProPakistanis

Microsoft Devices Pakistan recently collaborated with Nestle Pakistan, according to which Nestle chose the Windows Phone platform to provide support to their field force teams. Nokia to Stop Shipping Symbian Phones After this Summer - ProPakistanis

Earlier this year when Nokia announced its quarterly earnings report, it made this clear that the lifespan of its Symbian devices is coming to an end in favor of Microsoft’s Windows Phones.

Now Nokia has said that it all will finally come to an end this summer. The support of the devices will continue till 2016 at least though, so software updates will most-likely be rolled out until then.

The news of the ditching of Symbian smartphones comes as no surprise because Nokia’s Windows Phones sales finally caught up with the miserable sales of the the aging products, which were mainly pushed because of ground-breaking camera phones the N8, the later Belle devices and 808 Pureview.

According to the last quarterly report, only 0.5 million Symbian devices were sold compared to 5.6 million Lumia and 5 million Asha devices. After the discarding of the OS, Nokia has got only a single way to go: Windows Phones. Even if that fails then all is not over as the company has been hinting Android-running devices, saying that the doors are not completely being closed on them.

But even if you’re not a fan of the Symbian OS, you can’t help but be misty-eyed at the sight of the news. After all, its such an old OS and a vital part of our tech lives.

500 Million Android Devices are Active, Globally! - ProPakistanis

In front of iPhone 5 event, which is the sixth generation of the handset, where everyone’s eye is on Apple but Google sees it as a good time to remind everyone that by far Android is still bigger than iOS.

So, to make this aim done Hugo Barra, Google’s Director of Product Management for Android, shared the news on his Google+ account as:

500 million Android devices have been activated globally and over 1.3 million Android devices are added every single day.

More amazingly, when we saw these stats back in December 2011, Google’s Andy Rubin had then said that 700,000 Android devices are activated every day, and in July 2012 the activations grew to 900,000.

Furthermore, back in February, Andy Rubin confirmed that 300 million Android devices had been activated, at a rate of 850,000 a day. Afterward, at this year’s I/O conference, Google announced that 400 million devices had been activated, with one million new Android devices coming online per day.

In comparison, 410 million iOS devices have been sold as of July.

Surely, all these success for Android with big hitting handsets such as Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X that helped Android to strengthen its position in the market. It has been apparent that Samsung Galaxy S III, which hit the market late in May 2012, has been sold more than 20 million devices.

Washington, August 18 (ANI): Two android developers have been working on a latest app that can scan your social-media, text-messaging and Gmail output to get a better sense of how you write.

SwiftKey 3, a 3.99 dollar release in tablet and phone versions goes farther down that road. If you grant it permission, it will scan your Facebook and Twitter identities, read your Gmail, subscribe to your blog's RSS feed and look over your outgoing text messages to learn your style.

This personalization has allowed SwiftKey to auto-complete words way too esoteric for the standard Android keyboard, Discovery News reported.

However, its habit of automatically adding a space after a comma saves too little effort for the confusion it causes, and typing abbreviations with periods like "L.A." is borderline impossible unless you add in that punctuation later on.

The other app Swype has already won fans for this clever shortcut - you trace a path over the letters you want to type, allowing for exceedingly fast input of even long words.

But that approach breaks down if Swype's dictionary lacks the word you desired.

The current beta aims to fix that with Swype Connect. With permission, it scans the names of your Facebook friends, your Twitter updates and the handles of people you follow there, your Gmail and your outgoing texts.

It won't learn as much about you as Swype SwiftKey, but it also requires less faith in its Seattle-based developers.

Unfortunately, it has its own auto-correct annoyances - automatically inserting a space after a Twitter username means you can't append a comma or an apostrophe without moving the cursor back by hand.

Since Swype only sells its software to phone vendors, the general public is limited to downloading a beta version that will expire in about six months.

This perpetual-beta approach can inflict mistakes that shouldn't make it to "finished" software like an earlier beta flipped from English to Spanish with one tap.

Both of these apps demand regular re-training, or the snapshots they took of your Twitter or Facebook activity will grow stale. And since Google's browser software seems to handle text slightly different from other apps, you lose some of their auto-correction there. (ANI)

The Thinkpad Tablet 2 will be launched in October. Since both Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 will launch on October 26, you should expect the Thinkpad Tablet 2 to launch on the same date or later that month.

Android Gets its Official Blog and Google Plus Page: PRoPakistanis

In order to give Android more exposure and to keep people aware of all its advancements, developments and releases, Google has launched an official blog and a Google Plus page specially for the operating system to keep the people updated.

This is yet another effort from Google to bring Android more to the public after it made an official account of Android on twitter just months ago with the name of @Android.

Before the Android blog, Google Mobile blog was used to announce most of the things related to Android but it was used for announcements of app releases for other websites too and several other things but this Android blog is the first one to have been created only for the operating system.

PTA Makes it Harder for You to Register Complaints Against PTCL :ProPakistanis

Pakistan Telecommunication Limited or also known as PTCL is notorious for its after sale support services.

Without any doubt, there would be customers not happy with PTCL services, be it the broadband or any other service offered by PTCL. Such customers would naturally want to register complaints against PTCL at PTA’s website where the authority offers the telecom consumers to register their complaints online.

But you would be surprised to know that PTCL isn’t even listed as an ISP in the said complaint form available at PTA’s website for online complain registration, leaving no chance for consumers to register complaints against PTCL.

We have taken a screen shot for you – but you can visit PTA’s website to check this your self:

Initially we thought this could be a human error and PTCL was probably left out by mistake but interestingly you won’t be able to find PTCL even for Wireless Local Loop (WLL) category, creating an impression that PTCL was intentionally taken of the list.

Check following screen shot or visit PTA’s website to verify this yourself.

Is this a deliberate attempt by someone to keep PTCL away from complaints?

Just to mention, PTA maintains and publishes the number of complaints (in its quarterly and annual reports) that it receives against all operators. Probably, this trick will make PTCL look lot better in PTA’s quarterly and annual reports.

After what we learned from official website of Tourism, I am sure it would be the webmaster – though we don’t know whether PTCL is having in-house web development department or they outsource this work.

Chances are that webmaster is milking PTCL’s official website without letting the officials know about it. If so, then this doesn’t mean that PTCL officials are spared from this corruption, rather you can term them ignorant enough that they don’t notice their website closely.

Its about time that government and large corporations should increase the scrutiny procedures for their websites and webmasters.

Directive Issued to Allow Maximum of 5 SIMs Against One CNIC: ProPakistanis

Following the orders of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a significant change in “Subscriber Antecedents Verification Regulation 2010” by allowing maximum of 5 SIMs against one CNIC of any operator.

Earlier Chief Justice of Pakistan had ordered to make arrangements necessary to make sure that only one SIM could be issued against a single CNIC.

Before this directive, each CNIC holder could own 10 SIMs of one operator, or 40 SIMs of 4 cellular operators at most. But according to the new rule, one customer will be able to hold maximum of 5 SIMs against his/her CNIC of one or multiple operators.

Government of Pakistan’s SRO that revised old regulation said:

Amendment of Regulation 7, SRO 1189(1)/2010 of 2010 – at page 3975 regulation 7 shall be substituted and read as following:

“Maximum number of SIM(s) to be issued to individual CNIC holders – All CNIC holders shall be entitled to purchase in their name up to a maximum of five SIM(s) whether from one or more operators”

Reportedly, the directive has been received by mobile cellular operators and they are evaluating their options for the implementation of this order.

The status of those connections that have been sold in past and are in access of 5 in number on one CNIC is still unclear. Industry is hoping that this rule will be applicable on new sales only and those connections that have already been sold will not be impacted.

An official of a cellular operator argued that directive from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority doesn’t explain the status of already sold SIMs, for which industry will wait for Standard Operating Procedures that might not be made available soon given the Chairman PTA is stepping down on July 24th, 2012.

Officials of telecom industry believe that issuing the directive is meaningless unless the standard operating procedures aren’t revised by PTA. He maintained that blockade of old connections exceeding 5 SIMs on single CNIC will arise serious issues for customers and mobile companies.

Analysts believe that this directive is not implementable unless authority keeps a check on mobile companies’ records. They opined that cellular mobile operators will have to keep track of number of SIMs issued on one CNIC and should deny activation for more than 5 SIMs on single CNIC at 789 activation phase – which isn’t happening as of now at least.

A legal expert, when contacted for opinion, said that Supreme Court can take suo motu notice if its judgments aren’t implemented by PTA, for which telecom authority is suppose to submit a compliance report with in specific time frame.

It is feared that number of mobile connection will notably come down if this rule of 5 SIMs on single CNIC is implemented on already sold SIMs too.

• Eligible students can visit www.isic.com.pk and register themselves for the card or they can download the application form and sent it through regular mail.

What I Hate About Android Smartphones: ProPakistanis

• Android will never show you correct SMS time. If you turn on your phone at 8am, and you receive pending SMS messages. It will tell you received/sent time 8am, instead of the correct time when they were sent. So you won't be able to know when your friends send you SMS.
• You cannot charge your phone battery in offline mode. It will force start.
• Android phones come with SMS sending limits. 100 SMS per hour sending limit. If you are sending an Eid Mubarak SMS which is of 5 SMS, Android phone will give you serious headache after sending it to only 20 people.
• Till Android 4.0, Android didn't update their SMS application. All came with very basic SMS messaging features. Even cheap Chinese normal phones (3USD priced) phone have more messaging features than an Android phone.
• You cannot change themes in your Android phones.
• Different Android devices, diferent hardware. So most of applications, specially games come for expensive Android phones only. I like iPhone at this place, there they have only one hardware series.
• New software every year, makes my Android phone outdated. Very limited software update support by manufacturers. Apple is still giving support to its 4 years old device. Microsoft have announced that they will give support to their devices for at least 18 months.
• No good games, all low entertainment games come with ads and good games are not free, and most of them do not work on 50% of Android phones, only on high end devices.
• No proper Urdu/Arabi/Farsi language support. Finally after 5 years Google have announced that they are going to improve Urdu, Arabi, Farsi language support in Android 4.1 JellyBeans devices. Now you gotta waste more money to buy another Android phone with Android 4.1 version software.
• When an Android phone screen is locked = wifi goes offline which disconnects Internet connectivity, SMS app on sleep, pending SMS sending fails, processor sleeps to save battery.
• No stable multitasking till Android 2.3. There was very stable multitasking in old Symbian OS of Nokia phones (eg Nokia 6600) where it is possible to run more than 4 applications at a time and switch between them very easily.

Requirements:

• Your phone's USB drivers should be installed
• Android SDK Download it as zip and extract/place in C drive.
• USB Debugging on phone enabled (Settings\Applications\Development\USB debugging)
• You’ll need to have superuser permissions installed on your phone. This can normally be obtained by rooting your device then installing a custom ROM

How To Remove the 100 SMS Per Hour Limit

1. Open the command prompt

2. Copy and paste the following command into command prompt and press Enter key. This will navigate to your Android SDK folder in C drive and output will beC:\Android\platform-tools>

cd C:\Android\platform-tools

3. Once you’ve navigated there, enter the following commands, one per line. Do not enter anything in red, this is for informational purposes, and what will display on your command prompt as output.

Enter “.help” for instructions

Above command will completelty remove the limit.
Zero in  (‘sms_outgoing_check_interval_ms’, 0) means that No limit. You can change the zero to something, for example 500 to make 500 SMS sending limit per hour. Command with 500 should be (‘sms_outgoing_check_interval_ms’, 500)

Reboot your phone after executing above commands to make new SMS limit work for you.
