LG Has No Future Plans For Windows Phone Devices: ProPakistanis

LG is dropping from the Windows Phone race and has no plans to release any gadgets of that kind. The decision is not final, of course, and LG will continue its partnership with Microsoft. As you can imagine, LG’s U-turn is based on the really weak sales and most probably the threat from the Microsoft/Nokia team. Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer has a scheduled visit in Korea in May to explore partnership opportunities. LG is most probably on the list too, so we’ll have to see what happens then. Keep in mind though, that Samsung will surely be pushing WP8 running devices later this year, which will be an additional threat for everyone else. Anyway we look at this, it seems a wise decision on LG's behalf - at least for the time being. The Lumia lineup is the most popular WP brand and, combined with the low user demand, it is quite natural for LG to focus completely on Google's Android OS.

3G Pakistan goes from Low Signal to No Signal: ProPakistanis

The much expected 3G Auction back in Jan-12 got to Low Signal profile in March when the auctions we officially postponed to a later date. Now officials from telecom operators have confirmed Reuters of 3G Auction going in to No Signal profile as the PTA has delayed it indefinitely.
Potential bidders were due to submit expcoressions of interest from January 21, but they have yet not been invited to do so, Walid Irshaid, chief executive of Pakistan Telecommunication Co (PTCL), told Reuters.
“All the dates announced earlier have been put on hold, what the new date is we don’t know,” said Irshaid. “The first step was not even taken yet. No official notification has been received by us or any other operator.”
A spokesman for Telenor said the government had postponed the auction until indefinitely until it hires an international consultant to supervise the process.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, which is running the auction, was not immediately available for comment.
The government, which is still owed $800 million by Etisalat as part of the UAE firm’s $2.6 billion acquisition of a 26 percent stake in PTCL in 2006, expects to raise at least $630 million from the 3G auction, having set a base price of $210 million for each licence.
That would have raised much-needed money for Pakistan’s government, which battling doubled-digit inflation and a sharply widening trade deficit, while foreign investment into the country has also plunged.
Excerpts from Reuters
With this the speculations for 3G Auctions in 2012 comes to end. Let’s hope for the best in coming future.

Wateen Telecom has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Punjab IT Board for enabling e-learning in the province.
Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Naeem Zamindar, CEO Wateen Telecom signed the agreement at the PITB E-Government Exhibition held at Arfa Technology Park earlier today.
With the agreement, Wateen Telecom will provision an e-learning portal for graduate and post-graduate students to access and gain vital educational content from. The online portal will include text books, past papers, solved past papers and tips for students on preparing for examinations.
This project aims at providing free access to education with just the click of a button and promises to leap-frog the country to economic progress and prosperity with a skilled and educated workforce.
In order for students to access this portal in universities and colleges, Wateen intends to provide the facility of Wi-Fi Hotspots. These Wi-Fi Hotspots will be free to access for students, to help them in their education and research. This portal is a small step towards realizing Wateen’s vision of enabling every man, woman and child in Pakistan through leading edge technology.
With growing online access, the youth of Pakistan faces a dearth of quality education. Currently government spends on the education sector are limited. Today we are creating an opportunity for students of tomorrow to benefit from and improve Pakistan economically and socially.”
The e-Government Exhibition, hosted by PITB, was visited by over one thousand students from various schools and universities. All the main ICT firms, including Wateen, participated in the exhibition with their stalls accessible for the general public.
